Our volunteer crisis intervention specialists help those in the community who are searching for emotional support and may be in crisis. These services include The PHONE, CIC’s nationally recognized model for telephonic crisis intervention, Crisis Chat, an online instant messaging program and our SMS (text) service. The main qualifications we are looking for in our volunteers include the ability to be caring, empathetic and nonjudgmental.

We encourage those interested in the CIS training class to sign up using our online application as we are able to process your information faster and schedule your screening. Crisis Intervention Services training:

  • involves active listening, crisis theory and intervention, suicide and violence assessment and community resources
  • occurs 3 times a year
  • approximately 74 hours
  • volunteer commitment of 12 hours a month for 9 months or 18 hours a month for 6 months.
  • volunteers must be 18 years or older
